.daylighting minetta brook.
Hudson River is one of the major water thoroughfares in New York City and is currently one of the busiest among them. In the early 1900s, the city underwent major land expansion on all sides, mostly done through landfill. A consequence of this has led to the disappearance of Minetta Brook, a nearly 2 mile stream that was once considered to be one the largest watercourses in Manhattan.
This project aims to daylight a portion of Minetta Brook to present conditions that will allow the design to continually evolve with the climate.
artificial marshland
The design approach to daylighting this portion of Minetta Brook is to transform the entrance into an artificial marshland.
This entails creating artificial islands along the Hudson River. By creating these marshlands, there will be a higher chance of resurrecting and even creating an ecosystem that will thrive in different natural conditions.
