.pier 42.

The redesign of Pier 42 is a pop-up park installation that is located in the Lower East Side that will run before the Big U starts construction. The design of the park tackles the need of providing recreational amenities of the surrounding neighborhood, which is diverse in both ethnicity and economy.

The design concept takes into account the site's great view of the East River. A main curved structure will be built at the center of the site such that standing in front of it would create a framed view of the water. This structure would be flexible to accommodate various activities of different age groups. An elevated wooden deck behind the curved structure doubles as a seating and eating area, with the framed view still clearly visible.Pier 42 will be filled with several areas where artwork can either be painted or placed upon and additional seating to appreciate the art as well as the waterfront.
